Can you still be a drug addict if the drug doesn’t make you feel good?

Question by Nippu: Can you still be a drug addict if the drug doesn’t make you feel good?
I’m 16, I’m taking adderall because I have asperger’s and ADD. I get angry because my mom refuse to allow me to adderall when I need to. She says that I’m becoming addicted to it because I keep asking about it constantly, but the adderall doesn’t make me feel good. In fact, I hate taking it. I only take it so I can concentrate on my work, my cleaning, and avoid getting into trouble.

How am I an addict if I don’t like taking it, I’m just using it to help me.

Some drugs are addictive and even though the addict doesnt feel it, their body is addicted and needs the drug just to feel normal. In my opinion, anything can be addictive as the human brain is a complex organ that i feel we are just beginning to understand.

Adderall has a high liability for dependence so i suppose your mum is right to be worried. If she has been monitoring your use, you should be fine. To become addicted, we need access to the drug so we can abuse it.

Good luck and try talking to her about it. As you have asbies, try writing her a note and she can write you one and this makes talking about your feelings easier and you can read them later.
