Need help finding places to volunteer?

I lost my brother to an alcohol addiction fairly recently and I want to try to help people who are struggling with this problem. Can anyone give me some resources to find volunteering opportunities in this field? Thanks!

So sorry about your loss. Addiction is really hard on families. I think it’s great that you want to try to help other people in this way. As for volunteer opportunities, there are a lot of places you could look. If you go to a church, you could ask the staff there if they know of any places to volunteer. Lots of times they have their “finger on the pulse” of volunteer opportunities in the community. You could also look into local homeless shelters, as a lot of people end up homeless because of their addiction. You could even try contacting local alcohol rehab and detox centers and asking them if they have any ideas.

Al-Anon would be another excellent resource for you. It’s like Alcoholics Anonymous but it’s specifically for family members of people with alcoholism. It could be a source of support for you as well as a way to find places in the community you can volunteer and help.
