What is the real recividism rate for sex offenders?

Question by Dick: What is the real recividism rate for sex offenders?
According to a Department of Justice study, about 3 or 4 percent of sex offenders were rearrested for a crime within 3 years after release. Sex offenders had the second lowest recividism rate, after only murderers. Granted this study occured from 1994-1997, when sex offender registries were just barely beginning and the registries that existed were far from as strict as they are today. According to the media and state legislators, however, sex offenders have a 90% or higher recividism rate, and the only reason 10% of sex offenders haven’t been rearrested is because they keep committing new crimes but just don’t get caught. Who is telling the truth, and what is the real recividism rate for sex offenders?

You know what i wish i did not come across this question. i think about sexually based offensives to much. people deserve second chances. but if they need counseling then they should get it and a whole lot of it. convicted child molesters are eighty percent likely to not re offend IF they realize that the child DID NOT ENJOY the things done to him and her and or IF the child abuser realizes that their behavior hurt the kid. of those who hurt kids i hope they can forgive themselfs and live a healthy good life without hurting any more people. for those who might or are going to reoffend they need imprisonment in a penal institution not mental health treatment in a psychward. for those who have never offended but may they need out patient or in patient care at a mental health hospital. some people have brain tumors and that is what causes their bad behavior. i think in some cases like paedophilia the problems might be caused by mental illness, brain tumor, bad wiring of the love map of the brain, victim becoming the perpetrator, people may get a thrill knowing that its wrong, or they might just like to do sexual things to children. all of them could benefit from treatment. all of them need treatment and some of them need just plain prison to keep their feet off the streets and their disgusting dirty hands off of societys kids. 😯 percent of child molesters who get counseling do not reoffend. one prison in america hooked molesters up to electrical devices that kid see if they were getting aroused, and would shock them with electricity if the machine detected sexual arousal. after they hooked the molesters up to the machine they should pictures of kids in bikinis they then administered an electric shock when or if arousal was detected. they then showed pictures of adults in bathing suits and did not administer electric shock. this led to 6O to 7O percent of molesters to not re offend in a five year period. as you can see counseling is more statistically effective at ending reoffending. who i worry most about, and have the greater hope for, is the people who have pedophile tendencies but who never hurt a kid. i think they deserve as much attention.
