Why do some drug addicts say they don’t want to quit drugs?

Question by Krystal: Why do some drug addicts say they don’t want to quit drugs?
It’s one thing for a drug addict to have made a mistake and is trying to get help for his/her addiction but then there are some people who flat out say they don’t want to quit. I think such people should be put in prison for life since they clearly don’t care for anyone but themselves and they will do anything to get the drug. What is your opinion?
